About HALE
|
Our Alcohol Awareness Peer-to-peer Volunteer Co-ordinator, Lauren, has launched our brand new Fish Bowl project, recruiting and working with young people to raise awareness around unhealthy alcohol consumption. “Peer pressure is a major factor in young people’s drinking, and through the Fish Bowl Project we’re aiming to turn that peer pressure into peer support. We’ve had real success using this approach with HALE’s peer-to-peer chlamydia screeners and hope to replicate that here.” says Lauren. The project involves two volunteer groups; Alcohol Peers (under 18’s) and Alcohol Educators (aged 18 and over) who will use tools such as beer goggles to educate their peers around alcohol and the effects it can have on health, behaviour and relationships, and to highlight the risks associated with unhealthy alcohol consumption. The project provides young people with a great opportunity to gain work experience through volunteering, help them make better informed decisions and also to make a difference to the lives of other young people. If you're aged 18 or over and want to find out more about becoming an Alcohol Educator, or are under 18 and interested in becoming one of our Alcohol Peers please get in touch with Lauren on 07943 583696, or email lauren@haleproject.org.uk. Free training is provided for both roles. You can download the Fish Bowl flyers here:
