HALE recognises that there are many complex issues that relate to sexual health and so aims to provide a service that engages people with their current knowledge, confidence and self esteem. Shipley has one of the highest teenage pregnancies and STI rates in Bradford, and so this work is much needed.
HALE runs three programmes:
- CLASH (Collaborative Learning about Sexual Health) is for young people to explore their feelings about the opposite sex and relationships, learn about the impact of drugs and alcohol on relationships, and learn about STIs.
- Speakeasy is a course specifically for parents and carers, to help them support their children’s learning about relationships and sexual health.
- Peer to Peer Chlamydia screening offers training to young people so that they can encourage their peers to learn about Chlamydia and be tested for the infection.
If you're aged 16 or over and are interested in becoming a peer to peer screener please contact Sally at the HALE office. We pay you for your time once you've completed your training.
HALE has recently launched a c-card condom distribution scheme which we will be piloting for the next 12 months. The scheme is free and confidential. Users simply register with a member of HALE staff to get their c-card, then present the card at sessions we will be running throughout the area (including a fortnightly session at Highcroft Youth centre) to be issued with free condoms, dams or lubricant. Details of forthcoming sessions can be found on our Facebook page, or the 'What's On' section of this website - or you can contact Sally on 01274 271088.
