At HALE we recognise that there are many complex issues that relate to sexual health. We aim to provide a service that engages people and uses a creative approach to increase their knowledge, confidence and self esteem. Shipley has one of the highest teenage pregnancies and STI rates in Bradford, and so this work is much needed.
HALE runs three programmes:
- CLASH (Collaborative Learning about Sexual Health) is a programme for young people to explore their feelings about sex and relationships, build confidence and self esteem and learn about STIs and the impact of drugs and alcohol on relationships.
- Speakeasy is a course specifically for parents and carers to develop the confidence and skills to speak to their children about relationships and sexual health.
- Peer to Peer Chlamydia screening - recruiting and training young people so that they can encourage their peers to be tested for Chlamydia, and engage them in discussions around sexual health.
If you're aged 16 or over and are interested in becoming a peer to peer screener please contact Tonya at the HALE office. We pay you for your time once you've completed your training.
We also run a sexual health and alcohol awareness project on board our mobile outreach venue on Friday nights. We call this the Friday Night Project! The venues alternate each month between Roberts Park in Saltaire and Baildon Green. Click here for a list of where we'll be and when.
HALE is currently piloting a C-Card condom distribution scheme which is free and confidential. Users simply register with a member of HALE staff to get their C-Card, then present the card at sessions we will be running throughout the area to be issued with free condoms, dams or lubricant. Details of forthcoming sessions can be found on our Facebook page, or you can contact Tonya or Rachel on 01274 271088.
