Activities for Older People
HALE runs a wide range of activities for older people, from gentle seated exercise,
to film clubs, to cook and eat classes, to singing groups. Most of the activities that HALE runs cost no more than £2 and anyone is welcome to join in. You can just turn up or ring HALE in advance to book your place.
HALE currently supports a Film Club at Maple Court in Bingley, on Monday afternoons, 1.15 - 4.00pm. We also run a fortnightly Singing for Health group which meets at Hallcroft Sheltered Housing on alternate Tuesdays.
These groups give people the chance to get out of the house, socialise and make new friends.
We run two weekly social clubs at Peaselands, in Shipley: Gentlemen's Club (on Mondays from 1.00 to 3.00pm) and Chit Chat Club for ladies (on Wednesdays from 2.00 to 4.00pm). At Windhill Green Medical Centre we have Guys & Dolls, which takes place in the Emerald Suite every Tuesday from 2.00 'til 4.00pm. These popular clubs include light refreshments, friendly chat and the occasional quiz or game.
Our Baildon Well Being Café is a fun social event for older people who are feeling isolated or down, or anyone who is becoming a little forgetful, as well as their spouses or carers.
The Café is completely free and offers entertainment, refreshments, social activities and guest speakers in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. It runs from 1.30 until 3.30 pm on the first Thursday of every month at the Moravian Church Hall, Baildon. Forthcoming speakers include Time Out for Carers in April, and Solicitor Sarah Littlewood to speak about Wills and Power of Attorney in June.
All our exercise classes are run by a qualified Level Three instructor who can ensure that the exercise carried out is appropriate to your ability.
Time 4 Me is an exercise and weight management group which meets on Wednesdays at Shipley Baptist Church. The aim is to support people to manage their weight and enjoy exercise tailored to their age and abilities.
We also run Gentle Seated Exercise groups for those wishing to stay active who may have more limited mobility.
